Back in mid May I severely sprained my ankle playing soccer. Not only was I unable to do any sort of exercise for 7 weeks as I could barely walk, I also missed 2 5Ks I signed up for which really bummed me out! As I was planning on spending the summer getting in shape for my training group the sprained ankle completely derailed that.
So I have been slowing getting back on my running regiment. Needless to say, between the still recovering sprained ankle, and trying to build my endurance back up, it has been super slow going. I have been hovering between 2-3 miles each time out but my time is still pretty slow. It is nice to just be back out there though. I was going crazy not running for so long.
Yesterday I was able to run outside in the afternoon. This was a near miracle in Sacramento as August is usually the hottest month of the year and it is impossible to run outside in the afternoon without passing out from heat stroke. But I rolled up my sleeves (working on that arm tan) and went out for 3 miles. It was so nice to run in the afternoon as my attempts to get up at 5:15 am to get my runs in have been tough going. I am NOT a morning person and 5:15 am is too early for anyone to get up (in my opinion) but I do enjoy being done with my run for the day before I go to work. I am hoping that as time goes on morning runs will become second nature. Still waiting for that day…….
But due to the cool weather I am able to get that extra hour of sleep in the morning and run in the afternoon. Yesterday I finished in 37 minutes with about ¾ a mile walking sporadically. Not my best and definitely not where I need to be going into to training on Saturday, but I am working with what I got at this point. I know that I will get back to my normal pace soon so I am trying not to get to down about my time.
Today’s run was a bit better. Weather is still relatively cool and supposed to be for the rest of the week (Hurray!). I did 3 miles in 35 minutes with about 4 minutes of walking. Better than yesterday! I'm hoping by the end of the week I'll ready for training.
Also, I saw this weird squirrel/ferret looking thing today on my run. Totally strange!
